My friend from my kos, a painter, wants to use me as a model for a painting of Jesus. So this is the photo he is going to work from. Fitting eh? A Jew modelling as Jesus in Indonesia... odd.

Bule mendaki gunung

Decided to climb Mt Merbabu. This photo was taken halfway up looking back at the Salatiga region where I am living.

For a month now, Merbabu had been sitting there, always on the horizon, taunting me, tempting me to conquer it...

... so I did. Take that Merbabu!

This is.... well... this is a little statue with a big penis. And a German head...


After ogling the well-endowed statue, we went to a waterfall for some more wholesome fun. Not quite as fun eh?

Pemandangan Warnet

This is how we work here. It's 6:30pm. The sun is setting in a cloud of equatorial mist and smog, and a volcano squats in the midst. This is my view from the warnet (warung internet or internet cafe), where I am editing an article relating to Indonesian legal reform.

Shortly, I will order a nasi goreng which will be brought to me at my booth. Life is good.

Kos

This is where I live. There are about 30 Indonesian students living here, from all over Indonesia. I am the only bule (whitey). Its a pretty crazy atmosphere - death metal has taken a real hold here, and Seppultura reigns supreme...

Yesterday I translated a few pages of an enormous historiography of ancient Israel (which was written in highly complex English) for one of my friends. Go figure...

This is my room (the one on the end). It is concrete. It has one little window. There is a mattress on the floor... And I sleep like a baby.

... that is, until 4am when the neighbourhood roosters wake me up. I - will - eat - them.

Oh yeah, and I almost forgot! This is the infamous Merapi. Need I say more?
